A Creative Founder’s Ritual for Staying Inspired

Play isn’t a break from the work, it’s a practice that can fuel your most inspiring and productive sessions. There’s a time for knuckling down (and don’t we know it) but the real magic - the sustainable, soul-led, wildly alive stuff - lives in our ability to let go and shake it out. Play is a super power both personally and professionally, it opens up space for new ideas, for evolution and for a deeper connection with your inner voice, so that you can wield your vision with a sense of guided purpose.

When I allow myself moments of play, it's a childlike return to purity and openness. A state of trust and receptivity, without judgement. It is a neutral space beyond expectations and deadlines, where the inspiration can flow in an unfettered fashion, usually (hopefully) in the direction of a creativity that is so pure it feels like it landed directly from source. Play is a shift from doing to being, and when you return again to doing, it’s with a fresh perspective, a bag of new ideas and your intuition dialled up to full power.

Play isn’t just part of creativity, it’s the soil it grows from. It loosens you up, lowers cortisol, opens perception, and invites curiosity. These are the exact conditions creativity needs to thrive. Thought leaders and healers like Dr. Gabor Maté have spoken about how shaking, dancing, and childlike movement help release tension and regulate the nervous system, creating the safety and spaciousness needed for emotional release, focus and expression.

As someone who’s walked away from a long corporate career and is now shaping new containers for creativity, I have found playfulness to be a tool for reinvention. When you allow for play to take over the process, you’re not rigidly constructing a new self. You’re experimenting, without a predetermined idea. By relinquishing control, you're opening portals for the magic to assist you in crafting a fresh version of yourself, you’re inviting the universe to collaborate. When you start to think of 'Play' as your fun assistant, your spiritual midwife, what you can create is pure and potent.

I’ve even started blocking out one day a week as a Creative Play Date, a day with no structure, just an open invitation to explore, imagine, create, write, talk or move in a way that is unplanned and unexpected.

So whether you’re designing sustainable swimwear, teaching the next generation of humans, or leading a company, invite play into your process. Don’t relegate it to the weekend, build it into your rhythm. Your nervous system (and your next big idea) will thank you.

Where there’s play, there’s power. Let that be your compass today.

With love,
